Just attached the new Troy HK style front sight post on my AR-15. Solid metal construction is good for mounting to gas blocks that have rails on top. The solid metal is important due to heat at the gas block. Polymer will melt over time and that is a mistake I don't recommend.

As for the solid design you have to be careful not to jam this sight when it is in the open position. Unlike a Magpul that will depress this will tear up the catch and if banged hard enough will break the sight.

I like the Troy HK style front sight post and I would recommend it for individuals who know how to use iron sights.
