To fix the needle you need to simply remove the steel ring holding the protective glass in place, remove the glass and slide the copper balancing wire out toward the south end of the needle. You may have to file the steel ring shorter in order to replace it. In all other respects the compass works perfectly. For such a small price you get a really well made compass.
