In short, I do have Camelbak packs I love, but this is the best running pack I've had. The long version follows. As my distances got longer, my Camelbak Annadel didn't hold enough water, nor (when full) any of the other things I need on a long run. The Nathan Intensity pack is light, has plenty of room, a 70 oz bladder, and fits very comfortably. Since buying this, I've never used my Annadel.Mine is configured such that when I'm running on roads, I attach a little red blinking light on the elastic cord on the back; I have an ID tag attached to the rubber on the bottom. The top pocket has a keyholder on the inside, and an inner pocket. The left front pocket has an easy access outer slot and the larger portion zips; for me, it holds my inhaler, chapstick, hat light (when not in use), up to 3 gels, and a whistle. The right front pocket is adjustable with an elastic drawstring and I can fit a couple packets of Chomps in there along with a couple other things (like a stun pen). With all my stuff and full of water, it weighs about 5.5 lb - and there's still room.
The pack is very adjustable on the sides, and has a chest strap that can slide up and down from a couple inches below your collar bone to a couple inches above your waist (this is great for buxom ladies like me so I can get stability without pressure in the wrong spots). I have mine to where it doesn't bounce and doesn't chafe unless I overfill the pockets on the sides so that my arms have nowhere to go.
The bladder is so much easier to fill than the Camelbak reservoirs - the bag opens entirely at the top and folds over with a plastic slide bar that holds it closed. I can just hold this one under the ice dispenser and the sink. To get the Camelbak reservoirs full, I have put ice in using a cup and the water by resting the reservoir on its side, which can get messy. Also, I can squeeze the air bubbles out of the Nathan bladder before I close it, vs. having to hold it upside down and suck them out of the Camelbak.
The mouthpiece is smaller than the Camelbak, and requires you to really use your teeth to bite it. It allows less water out than the Camelbak mouthpieces do. I didn't like this at first, but now I'm used to it and prefer it. The small round mouthpiece on the Nathan is easier to put through loops and doesn't get caught on things like the L-shaped Camelbak ones do. It's much easier to take the reservoir and tube out of the pack for washing as a result. The mouthpiece also has a built in toggle to prevent any accidental leaks. I've put this pack through about 800 miles of running in the past 6 months and I've experienced no leakage from the mouthpiece even without locking it - my Camelbak ones would drip after about 200 miles of use, requiring the toggle.
The CONS: There aren't many. The color of mine bled onto the bladder, but not onto my clothes, and it will bleed in the wash. It starts to smell more quickly than my Camelbak did, so I wash it more, but it's easier to wash. Even when adjusted just how I like it, it tends to pull up my shirts a little in the back if they are loose. When full, the straps can put a pressure on the inner edge on top of your shoulders - I think padding might help, but that's more weight. Finally, the reflective bits have mostly peeled off, even with delicate wash and hang dry.
