Product Description
Compact (pocket sized), high-intensity LED flashlight for tactical, outdoor, or everyday use. Features a virtually indestructible light emitting diode that produces 80 lumens of tactical-level light (four times that of a typical two-D-cell flashlight), more than enough to temporarily overwhelm the night-adapted vision of an aggressor. And this super-efficient LED continues generating useful light levels for 12 hours on a single set of batteries. With no filament to burn out or break, this light's solid-state LED is shock-proof, and its patented CombatGripTM allows the flashlight to be easily held and operated when paired with a handgun, utilizing the SureFire technique. The ergonomic CombatGrip and tactical tailcap switching also make holding and activating the light easy in wet or humid conditions or while wearing heavy gloves. Its high output, long runtime, ergonomic grip, and durable polymer exterior make this flashlight a strong choice for law enforcement, military, self-defense, or everyday applications.SureFire G2Z LED CombatLight Flashlight G2ZL-BK 2009 Model Review
Surefire has been steadily introducing new products which is great for their constant research and development on new technologies and better manufacturing and materials. The problem is that each product is getting more and more expensive.Enter the Surefire G2Z LED CombatLight. I love this LED version of the G2Z model because it has a higher light output and longer running time thanks to the efficiency of the LED versus regular incandescent bulbs.
How efficient? Compare that the G2Z has 65 lumens at 60 minutes run time, while the G2Z LED has 80 lumens at 12 hours (not minutes) of run time.
FEATURES:
1. LED. Virtually indestructible light emitting diode which is electronically regulated to provide the same light output over its stated run time.
2. NITROLON body. Corrosion-proof. Impact-resistant. Non-conductive. Light-weight. What more do you want in a flashlight? Best of all holding the flashlight in your hand still has a very solid feel.
3. CombatGrip. Allows you to operate the flashlight while holding a handgun. Not for everyone, of course.
But just because you don't own a handgun doesn't mean this is all the feature you can use it for. The CombatGrip allows easy holding and operation of the flashlight which comes in handy when wearing large, thick gloves and provides better grip in wet/moist environment.
And what the heck compared to the G2 LED with no curves, this flashlight is sexy.
4. COLORS. One flashlight for your room, car and garage. Black, Tan and OD Green.
USE:
The G2Z is powered by two 123A lithium batteries which have a 10-year shelf life. When you need the flashlight, it will be there for you.
Not all parts of the flashlight is made of Nitrolon. The bezel is still made of aerospace-grade Aluminum for obvious reasons as better heat handling and dissipation.
And yes, you may find yourself spending more as Surefire sells a bunch of accessories including various filters you place on the bezel, holsters for your belt, lanyard and spare battery carrier. The good news is these accessories are inter-changeable if you own similar-sized Surefire lights.
COMPARED TO OTHER SUREFIRE FLASHLIGHTS:
I have a Surefire A2 Aviation which was their first introduction into LED lighting. It was also their first introduction of the light being electronically regulated. Now as of this writing their flashlights are mostly electronically regulated especially since they have finally decided to utilise LEDs for all others introduced after the A2. The price of admission for the A2 was and is still steep. For a "hybrid" main Xenon bulb of 50 lumens for 60 minutes coupled with 3 lumens of LED for 20 hours (an answer to give still provide you with at least a little more illumination when the batteries can't provide enough anymore for the main lights), this was technology at it's finest. At that time.
Now for half the price of an A2, you can enjoy a more rugged construction, higher light output and longer running time.
For the high price of Surefire products, this may be considered a bargain to have for which I am giving 5 stars if you feel you can only own one Surefire flashlight that's more affordable, perfectly sized model with no-compromise light output.
