National Geographic Men's NG750GKBS TimeTrekker II Ana-Digi Watch Review

Short answer: This watch is awesome!

Pros:
* Appearance - The watch is attractive and has generated many positive comments from admirers.
Sturdy - It is built well and is very rugged. I'm not a roughneck, and I don't work outside all day long, but it has served me very well.
* Settings, General - For me, it has been very easy to use (just don't lose the manual for those infrequent times that you might need it. Setting time and date are fairly easy. The watch even has a very convenient *standard* time setting to make those dreaded time changes easier every 6 months. You know... The one's where you get an extra hour of sleep - or lose that hour! This watch at least makes it VERY easy to set. A couple of button clicks and it spins around to the correct hour.
* Settings, World Time - If you're a "jet-setter" or travel a lot between time zones, this watch makes it very easy to set. With world-wide city names all around the dial, you just pick one and it automatically sets the hour to the correct time zone (assuming you correctly set it once for your time zone!). I kind of like watching the hour hand spin around as it's being set. I'm sure this wears the battery out more, but who cares? It's cool!
* Settings, Hand Sync - Syncing the hands is also an easy couple of buttons - and you're done. The hands became out-of-sync with the digital time once in the time I've had mine (over a year now, I believe).
* Crystal - Seems to be pretty scratch resistant. I show it no mercy and bang it up pretty bad sometimes. The metal around the crystal has a few scratches, but I expected that. It's not titanium, but it's pretty darn good.

Cons:
* Weight - It's not very light. It's downright *heavy* for a watch. But I actually like that. My friend with one of those fancy titanium watches loves to comment how much lighter his is. Well, I don't want his "girly" watch. hahaha
* Backlight - Don't expect a bright Timex-like indiglo. The backlight *barely* lights the dial up enough to tell time in darkness. It definitely doesn't help much when it's sort of dark, but not quite.

Unknown:
* Battery consumption - The manual says the battery (CR2016) should last 5 years. Ask me in another 4 years or so and I'll let you know. (wink) [Edit: I had the battery replaced about two months ago. The . So the bottom line is that the battery did not last 5 years. I think I was lucky to get a little more than 2 years - but that still isn't too bad.]

Overall:
* Once again, I think it's a great watch. I didn't have to pay full price as I found it on sale for about ten-percent of original retail. Sweet!
