Tour de France Kids' Running Bike Review

When my mother-in-law bought one of these for my boys (ages 2 and 3 at the time) for Christmas, she said it would help make the transition to "big boy bikes" (no training wheels) easier and faster. I was skeptical. But, the boys loved it and had a blast zipping around the driveway on this thing.

The construction is VERY sturdy. It has been abused BY TODDLER BOYS, and any parent knows what that means -- crashed into bushes, run down grassy hills, left in the rain, dropped on its side... Once it was even left behind the van and dragged for several feet when I backed out of the garage. Not only does it work just like the day we got it, but it still looks good, too!

When my oldest turned 4, I decided to test the theory... I took him out in the driveway with a 12" bike (no training wheels) and asked if he wanted to try it. HOLY COW! In less than 30 seconds, he was off and away. I never held the seat, never ran behind the bike, never had to catch him. All I had to do was teach him how to get started (which he got on his second try). WOW! 30 seconds! Really! Call it what you want... balance bike, running bike, no-pedal bike... I'M A BELIEVER! :)

**Bonus Features** This bike comes with a bell and a hand brake. The hand brake is great for learning, but most 12" and 16" bikes use pedal brakes instead. (No worries from my 4yo, who drags his feet on the ground when he wants to stop. HA! We've still got a little learning to do.) Additionally, the body of this bike is shaped just like a standard bike, which makes the transition that much easier. Everything from the tires and the handlebars to the height of the seat feels exactly like a 12" bike.
