I just bought the Nike Fuel band (white ice) a few days ago from my local Apple Store. So far, I really like it. Before I bought it, I was debating between the Jawbone UP and the FitBit as well, however I eventually narrowed it down to the Jawbone UP and the Nike Fuel band because I figured I would lose the FitBit too easily. What made me hesitate between Nike and Jawbone?
-Jawbone had sleep and food tracking
-Social aspect of the Jawbone. None of my friends have Nike Fuelbands so there's really no social aspect with the Nike Fuelband.
What made me decide to get Nike?
-Design
-LED display
-Motivation
-Wireless Syncing
The design was a big part for me. If I'm going to wear something on my wrist, I want it to look good, however, this is all personal preference. The one thing I didn't like was the color. In the pictures, the white ice looked really bright white, however, in reality it's dull and yellowish. Plus, the lines of the LED bug me a bit. I would've went with the solid black color, but I thought it looked too masculine for me. Hopefully in the future Nike will make a solid white color or just something more suited for women.
So far I really like the Fuelband. It makes exercising more fun than a chore. However, Nike will definitely need to add some more features onto the fuelband, such as sleep tracking (I don't really care for food tracking). If the Jawbone UP added wireless syncing, a display, or had a better design (any one of these), then I would've went with the Jawbone UP without a doubt and I'm sure many other people would have too. It's somewhat embarrassing when people ask what the fuelband does and you can only respond with "well...it counts my steps and gives me nike fuel" (something that no one knows anything about).
Overall, I like this product. Although it's not 100%, it's still relatively accurate and it does motivate me to move a bit more than I normally would. If you don't have the $150 to spare, don't get it unless you're dying to have it. If I were to go back to before I bought the fuelband, I probably would've went with the Jawbone UP.
Update 12/27/12:
I've had the fuelband for a few weeks now and here are some additional thoughts:
-Battery life is good. I think the advertised battery life is 4 days, but I didn't need to charge mine until around 10-11 days later. I forgot I even needed to charge it.
-I've used mine in the shower and so far there haven't been any problems.
-Not as motivating as it was in the beginning. At first I really wanted to reach my daily goal, however, now that I've gotten used to it, I don't really care anymore. I think that a lot of people will get tired of this after a few weeks. However, if you have friends that are using this as well then it it might be a bit more interesting.
-Many people have commented on how cool they think the fuelband is, however, once I tell them the price, they think it's ridiculous. It makes me feel a bit ridiculous for buying it.
-I bought this to get myself moving, not to lose weight. Definitely do not buy this if you're looking to lose weight. I think the fitbit or Jawbone UP would be better for that since they give more stats and information.
Overall, I still really like the fuelband even with the cons. I'm a very visual person and I really like cool accessories so it's probably the design of the fuelband that makes me like it so much...still not worth the $150 though.
